Who We Are

The Senate of the Economy is a non-partisan global leadership and networking community for individuals in business, academia and politics who want to create a positive change worldwide.

Established in Germany in 2009 as an advocate for inclusive economic growth the Senate has now evolved into one of the most impactful and values-based exclusive economic leadership forums in Europe.

As North America and Europe share common ethical and democratic values, the Senate has expanded to the United States. The Senate of the Economy, an US IRC 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and our partner organizations in Europe are comprised of the International Senate.

We support the following principles:

  • Value-centered and sustainable economy
  • Ethical business, integrity and social practices
  • Protection of the environment
  • Social responsibilities of companies and entrepreneurs
  • Protection of international human rights.

Reviving the principles of the Senate of classical times, we are a well-balanced circle of peers with independent minds striving for a common good and are not tied to any special interests. The Honorary President of the International Senate is Muhammad Yunus, recipient of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize.

Senate members (“Senators”) are strong solution minded  and action oriented leaders. Executives, company owners, decisions makers and academics, who maintain long-term relationships based on trust and mutual respect.  Senators are advocates for a sustainable, fair and responsible economy on a regional, national and global level while facilitating opportunities to grow in new markets or industries.

A Senator is appointed through a selective process. Invited to join are individuals who are recognized leaders and have demonstrated integrity, alignment in sustainable business, education and social responsibility. The number of Senators is limited to the total number of seats in Congress.

What We Do

By bringing together executives, policy makers, academics and other influential leaders our mission is to connect the right individuals who wish to make positive change. Our Senators address critical industry and cross-industry issues around the globe. With the economic and social expertise of the Senate community, we support policy makers to develop solutions for today’s and tomorrow’s key challenges of our global community.

We host high level events in both the United States and Europe which address economic, political, cultural, social, and environmental issues. Our goal is to promote exchange and international cooperation between members of our Senate family and beyond. Offering access and extensive opportunities to interact with their national and international counterparts at an eye-to-eye level.

Why We Do It

We believe economic, social and environmental issues can best be solved when business leaders, policy makers and academics work together hand-in-hand. Sharing best practices of world business leaders for solutions can help create important and meaningful changes in the economy and society as well as promote fair and sustainable business, among our domestic and international audience. We are focused on inclusive economic growth including sensible solutions for fighting climate change and improving education in the digitization age. We work for positive development in the United States and abroad. Recognizing that technological innovation is rapidly changing our globalized economy and affecting our community.

We promote opportunities generated by technological and digital innovation for a globalized economy and community . As such, the Senators are aware of their social responsibility and work to that end in the spirit of US President John F. Kennedy: “If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.“
